2nd DSBL weekend on Lake Constance off Lindau
The Bayerischer Yacht-Club (1st Bundesliga) and the Flensburger Segel-Club (2nd Bundesliga) are the winners of the league weekend in Lindau

"We hadn't expected to be so far ahead. First place is a great surprise for us!" That's how happy Sebastian Hibler was on Saturday in Lindau. The helmsman of the Bayerischer Yacht-Club and his team with Julian Autenrieth, Raoul Heraeus and Leopold Lindner were able to prevail against strong competition on the final day and catch the interim leader Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) from Hamburg with helmsman Tobias Schadewaldt. The second league weekend of the 2nd Bundesliga was won by Flensburger Segel-Club with helmsman Michael Ilgenstein.

Summer, sun and sailing galore: that was the second league weekend of the season off Lindau.

The decision in favour of the Bavarians was only made in the 46th of a total of 48 races in light winds. In this flight, there was a direct encounter between the Bavarians and the North Germans in the midsummer heat. The Bayern Express prevailed and recorded its seventh race win in total. Third place was secured by the hosts from the Lindauer Segler-Club (LSC) on Lake Constance. Helmsman Veit Hemmeter and his team knew how to capitalise on their home advantage: "Our strategy worked and we also had a great start in the last race. If we hadn't had an early start beforehand, we could have done even better."

Fourth place in the south was secured by the Segel- und Motorboot-Club Überlingen, which continues to lead the league table after Prien's victory. In second place are the German champions from the German Touring Yacht Club, who sailed to sixth place ahead of Lindau. NRV moved up to third place after the first two regattas of the season.

The North German teams dominated the action in the parallel races of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Flensburger Segel-Club (FSC) won the Lindau regatta ahead of the Schlei Segel Club and the Blankeneser Segel-Club. FSC helmsman Michael Ilgenstein admitted: "We had big problems with the light wind, but were able to improve from day to day. We are of course delighted with our first place in the 2nd division after we were so unfortunate to be relegated last year." The action continues in Kiel in three weeks' time. The first division teams will meet there for the third league weekend of the season from 17 to 19 June.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
